WHAT IS A FOOD BANK?

A Food Bank is a charity where people who need food can get it for free.

WHO IS A FOOD BANK FOR?

A Food Bank is for people and families who cannot afford to buy food, and who don’t have other options to get food. Ukrainians who need food and cannot afford it can use a Food Bank for help.

WHO IS A FOOD BANK NOT FOR:

A Food Bank is not for people staying with hosts, because hosts are responsible for providing food. Food Banks are also not for people who can afford to buy food.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

People who have extra food donate it to the food bank. Many people also donate money for the Food Bank to buy food. The Food Bank then gives away food to those who need it.

WHEN SHOULD I USE A FOOD BANK?

Ukrainian Newcomers can use Food Banks the same as Canadians: when they need food, and do not have access to it. There is no shame in accessing a Food Bank if you need it. Food Banks are there to help. However, Food Banks should not be used by those who have a host, or who have money to buy food.

WHY DO FOOD BANKS MATTER?
