Folks – we have made the sad decision to close our guest application for the moment. We are going to take a bit of time to re-evaluate what we are doing. We will continue to accept host appplications, and may be able to assist Ukrainians whose family or friends are here on a case-by-case basis.
We are NOT stopping our work in any other area of supporting Ukrainians.
But here is the reality:
Vancouver Island is one of the most expensive places in Canada. Those who have arrived are struggling to find a place to live.
We are a VOLUNTEER team who has become completely overwhelmed with crises that we are not trained to manage: ranging from human trafficking and domestic violence to suicide and child neglect.
In order for us to continue to support those who are here, we cannot accept additional applications for the time being.
We are grateful to everyone who continues yo volunteer and support. Our work is not done. But we need catch up. We need to support the 478 displaced Ukrainians who have already arrived, and those that we have already matched.
