Position Function:

Perform grounds maintenance, property beautification and assist in the provision of client service at Royal Oak Burial Park. Workers in this position are appointed on a seasonal / temporary basis for a period not normally more than six (6) months in duration.

Key Duties:

Trim around memorials, trees, interment section and property boundaries; cut grass and repair or replace turf.
Water flower and planting beds, trees and turf areas.
Remove garbage, dead flowers and plant materials from gravesites and other Burial Park property. Separate dead flowers, plant materials and garbage for composting.
Maintain and clean roads and pathways.
Clean and maintain cemetery buildings, including but not limited to; sweep, vacuum, wash floors, dust, clean washroom and kitchen facilities
Assist to prepare, open and close, set-up and remove equipment and materials for casket and urn interment services.
Regularly check power equipment and vehicles for fuel, oil, maintenance and repairs. Perform basic, regular maintenance of power equipment and vehicles and cleaning of vehicle interiors and exteriors.
Respond to inquiries from the general public, client families and other outside persons or agencies regarding routine Burial Park information.
Perform other related duties.
Under the direction and supervision of a senior titled position, a Seasonal Grounds Person may be assigned to:

Assist in the performance of gardening tasks.
Assist in grave lifting, repairs, exhumations, disinterments and reinterments.
Assist in the installation of cremation vaults in the Garden, Grove or other cremation lots, including but not limited to; opening and preparation of site, placement of urn, closing of lot.
Assist in the installation of memorials.
Assist in grounds beautification and memorial site development projects.
Independence:

Work is performed according to established maintenance routines and work orders.
Work is assigned and supervised by the Lead Hand and / or the Director of Grounds Operations.
Key Skills & Abilities

Use an assortment of hand tools, including but not limited to: shovel, rake, hoe, gardening shears, pruning saw, broom and mop.
Operate assorted power equipment and vehicles, including but not limited to: trimmers, blowers, pruners, push and riding mowers, all terrain utility vehicles and trucks.
Understand and apply grounds maintenance skills.
Acquire a basic understanding of Burial Park section, plot and lot numbering system.
Understand and discuss job related matters.
Maintain a cooperative working relationship with the Operations Supervisor and other Burial Park personnel.
Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 .
A current and valid British Columbia driver’s license.
Sufficient health, physical condition, strength, stamina and coordination to permit performance of work in all types of weather.
